This position is responsible for managing control system projects and supporting existing plant control systems.
  • Experience in Process Control System support or related computing and networking technologies such as DCS systems, SIS systems, batch software, HMI software, SCADA systems and PC networking technology in an operating plant  in chemicals or refining industries.  
  • You will learn new chemicals or refining processes while working effectively in a team environment.
  • Provide installation and support for all plant control systems, data acquisition system and maintenance team objectives.
  • Maintain the data historian or EPI
  • Manage several small capital projects simultaneously  including scope definition, engineering design, cost estimation, software configuration, preparation of bid packages, preparing the MOC, supervision of contractors, managing shutdown/commissioning/startup phases and training operators.
  • Provide engineering support for instrumentation and control systems on larger capital projects
  • Capacity to achieve skill level in new technologies in a few months
  • Capacity to achieve skill level with installing and managing a virtual environment?
  • Health, Safety, Security & Environmental Specific Responsibilities:
  • Understands and helps implement the SBU HSES / Responsible Care Policy and related objectives.
  • Aware of potential environmental, health, safety and security impacts in area of responsibility and the consequences if an upset occurs.
  • Understands and implements any parts of the Houston Environmental Compliance Plans, Waste Management Plans and Emergency Response Plan that applies to area of responsibility. 
  • Willingness to train on LOPA
  • Adherence to the site’s MOC process.
  • Bachelor’s in Engineering  from an accredited university required:  Chemical Engineering preferred
  • At least three (3) years’ experience in general process control to include tuning, designing and implementing controls systems, batch sequencing.  Prefer 5 years or more experience
  • Alarm rationalization experience preferred but not required.
  • Experience with SIS is required
  • Familiarity with hardware associated with control systems
  • Chemical manufacturing and/ or chemical refining industry required.
  • Hands-on experience with control systems required.  DeltaV preferred, but not required.   
  • Experience with LOPA preferred, but not required
  • Must work well in a team environment with all levels of employees
  • Demonstrated capacity to gain skill level in new technologies in a few months
  • Working knowledge and ability to troubleshoot industry communication protocols including Modbus and OPC preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand P&ID’s and loop drawings.
  • Written and verbal communication skills sufficient to promote ideas, manage contractors and train operators
  • Willing and able to support systems 24x7 – including weekends, holidays, and evenings as required.
