Seeking a Director of Engineering to oversee package design and provide team leadership for new metals product and process development. The Director of Engineering will lead a team of 5 direct reports and related staff in a non-union operation that employs approximately 250 associates in metals and plastics operations. The company is a leader in metal decorating, fabricating and plastic injection molding for the packaging industry. 

Responsibilities include:
  • Manage staff and process of generating ideas for product design, function and/or improved production tooling, processes, and production implementation for metals products. Create product concepts and illustrate through diagrams, instructions, and/or drawings.
  • Process management and documentation for numerous programs. Coordinate/facilitate the location to produce new products.
  • Manage assigned personnel and areas maximizing throughput and effectiveness, and maintain a strong working relationship with other groups/locations to facilitate projects and best practices.
  • Work with operating divisions to design tooling and manufacturing procedures for new metals products and to improve present products.  Approve all major engineering changes for metals products. Work through R&D Director to obtain new development product samples for both products and components.
  • Responsible for all metal process improvement activities and cost reduction programs including tracking and documentation of progress and results.
  • Coordination of Plant and Manufacturing Engineering at all facilities, and establish/implement Best Practices in Engineering, Technical Services, and Environmental.
  • Lead and assist operating divisions in the selection of new equipment. Organize bidding process, approve purchases, and manage the implementation effort.
  • Coordinate the start-up process of manufacturing a new metals product. Locate equipment, design the manufacturing line, and coordinate work of outside vendors to ensure that programs are delivered on schedule and on budget.
  • Provide primary support for the company for metals growth, including strategic planning.
  • Responsible for any and all Environmental and Patent activities within the organization. 
  • Evaluate equipment and tooling requirements and make recommendations for additional equipment. Audit and prepare reports related to project and departmental expenditures.
  • Prepare development and implementation time lines with projected cost on new projects; and production tooling and equipment costs and lead times.
  • Support direct customer and supplier communication through all levels of project development.

  • 4-year degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology required. Advanced Engineering degree preferred
  • 10+ years’ experience in Product Development and leading product development teams required
  • Hands-on product design experience and 4+ years’ direct supervisory experience managing engineering department required
  • Working knowledge metal printing and metal fabrication
  • Familiarization with Pro Engineer, Microsoft Project, AutoCAD required.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others
  • Proven experience in Project Management and Continuous Improvement
  • Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal and communication skills
