This opportunity is for a Factory Automation Engineer on site at our client. As an employee of Productive Resources, you will perform basic professional controls engineering (e.g. Electrical machine controls design; Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programming; Personal Computer (PC) programming; Data management) assignments of specific engineering tasks. At this level, projects are of limited scope and responsibility; work plans and decisions are made within established guidelines and may be reviewed by supervisors and/or managers. May assign, coordinate, and review portions of work assigned to support personnel and contractors.

Duties:
  • Assist Project Leads in development and implementation of small to large Factory Automation (FA) solutions.
  • Develop and implement small FA solutions.
  • Ensure FA standards are followed.
  • Assist Project Leads in updating electrical systems and prints for machines or shop floor tooling and equipment.
  • Assist Project Leads in updating human machine interfaces and PLC programs for machines or shop floor systems.
  • Support of conveyance equipment (e.g. automated or manually guided vehicles, loaders, conveyors, drives, lifts, jibs, hoists, manipulators, etc.).
  • Support of shop floor device connectivity (torque tools, test and verification equipment, vision systems, etc.).
  • Assist with MES configuration, and testing.
  • Support integration (installation and networking) of shop floor equipment and tooling into MES and PLCs.
  • Configuration of device and system communications for PLC connectivity.
  • Implementation and support of shop floor visualization solutions, such as machine health metric displays and production status dashboards.
  • Management of database structures and data records.
  • Generate/maintain reports required to support management of equipment.
  • Support business owners in analyzing machine data.
  • Provide daily support for urgent production issues, including root cause analysis and resolution. Communicate lessons learned and common issue resolution with Unit Tier I/II support.
  • Generate and maintain user manuals, knowledge videos, and on-screen help links.

  • Background in Engineering (Electrical, Controls, Computer, etc.).
  • Has a good understanding of the principles and can independently use that knowledge.
  • Knowledgeable in PLC, PC, and Structured Query Language (SQL) programming and the engineering tools required.
  • Has a good understanding of the principles and can independently use that knowledge.
  • Knowledge of electrical design and the codes, common practices, and engineering tools.
  • Has a good understanding of the principles and can independently use that knowledge.
  • Knowledge of MES solutions (SAP-MES, AMES, etc.), mistake proofing of manufacturing processes, and shop floor device connectivity.
  • Has a general understanding of the principles and uses the knowledge with assistance.
  • Degree in an Engineering/Technology discipline or equivalent experience.
  • University Degree (4 years or equivalent)
Preferred Skills
  • Experience in one or more related engineering areas: electrical, controls, computer, etc. - Less than 1 year
  • Experience with engineering tools, systems and databases - Less than 1 year
  • Experience in electrical design and in the use of electrical drafting software – 1-3 years. PLC and/or PC programming – 1-3 years.
  • Experience in project management – small strategic projects.
