Position Summary:

As Lead Chemist, you will spearhead advanced material development projects for automotive heating and cooling.  Your development efforts will focus on new materials and new processes for rubber hose compounds.  This rewarding and challenging role provides technical leadership, support, guidance, problem resolution, and solutions to your team and customers.  We are looking for a unique individual with ability to excel as an industry leader, share knowledge, and continue to develop themselves throughout their career with us.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Development of next generation rubber hose compounds, and updating and refinement of existing formula
  • Leads advanced analyses, tests, and development of new or updated formulas that require specialized understanding of chemistry, product lines, and materials; determines quality standards
  • Enters and reviews new materials and revisions into the appropriate product management system and assists other Chemists
  • Further development of skills through industry conferences, training, and technical literature
  • Uses working knowledge of business group operations and application methods to assist with implementing project objectives, product systems, budgets, timelines, and other requirements
  • Develop materials technology for future use of Engineering and Operations
  • Leads others to solve complex questions and concerns from Engineering, Operations, research technicians, quality control, and customers
  • Develops and reviews reports and documents detailing project processes, results, conclusions, and analysis of failed current production materials; recommends additional actions or research
  • Develops and applies department policies, procedures, applicable rules, and regulations; ensures compliance with these areas
  • May lead functional teams or projects
  • Benchmarks competitive materials and/or products
  • Develops new materials and generates new validation methods
  • Develops materials best practices and generation of materials specifications
  • Leads team members for projects that are large in nature and independently carries out project tasks and provides professional technical support to the product development, quality control, manufacturing processes, and other operations
  • Interprets internal and external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes or services
  • Operates, maintains, and calibrates a variety of specialized equipment that require professional judgment and background; also utilizes technical or standard equipment during the course of projects
  • Leads complex projects to ensure daily tasks and project objectives are completed
  • May supervise or serve as a lead to lower level team members performing research projects
  • Identifies various scrap, lean, and variation reduction projects
  • Meets with raw material suppliers to discuss/review new materials and technological developments
  • Communicates the latest developments within the industry and professional field by meeting with people of similar capacities, reading industry and technical literature and attending meetings
  • May, on occasion, be required to perform duties other than those specified in this description

Qualifications

Education and Qualifications:


Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
  • Typically has ten plus years of experience
  • Technical experience in manufacturing environment required
  • Strong chemistry, mathematical skills, and mechanical aptitude required
  • Ability to work independently, with guidance in only the most complex situations
  • Ability to explain advanced professional chemistry principles and practices
  • Sharp analytical, problem solving and interpretation skills
  • Ability to communicate difficult concepts and negotiates with others to adopt a different point of view
  • Strong ability of multi-tasking, team working and impartation  
  • Clearly and concisely communicates written and verbal messages
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and ISO/TS 16949 standards
  • Willingness and ability to travel to customer locations, as necessary

Work Environment/Work Conditions:

  • Professional Office Environment
  • Must wear proper personal protection equipment while on manufacturing floor
  • Travel to manufacturing facilities or customer locations when required
  • Equipment used requires proper training on the potential for and avoidance of injury
