Our client is a global manufacturer of technically advanced specialty materials and complex components. These products support diverse markets and industries such as aerospace and defense, oil & gas, electrical energy, medical, automotive, and other industrial markets.

 

This position will be responsible for managing various product development programs, personnel and continuous improvement initiatives in a fast-paced machine shop environment.

 

 

Product Development Duties:

 

  • Support customers' technical requirements from program infancy through First Article Inspection
  • Contribute with costing initiatives; i.e. perform calculations, drawings and product method of manufacture
  • Research, design and material selection of in-process tooling, fixtures and gauging of various products
  • Evaluate products' material properties; i.e. characterization of dimensional, mechanical, microstructural and NDT testing.
  • A background in metallurgy is beneficial
  • Takes effective leadership over technical projects and able to interact independently with customers

Process Improvement Initiatives:

 

  • Optimize processing capabilities through continuous improvement efforts
  • Model and optimize material process flow through production to improve on time delivery
  • Lead various DOE initiatives to improve processing parameters
  • Manage capital expenditure programs; i.e. design, construction, installation of new and existing equipment
  • Flowform data analysis, i.e. speeds, feeds, loads and ultimately FEA modeling
  • Oversee equipment modifications, upgrades and automation
  • Design and improve tooling handling/storage
  • Learn and master understanding of flowforming processing parameters
  • Methodize and design new applications around innovative flowforming technology

 

Requirements:

·        Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering is required; Masters of Science preferred

·        10+ years of manufacturing experience is required

  • Lean training and Six Sigma experience is highly desirable
  • Project Management and New Product Introduction experience preferred
  • Proficiency in Solidworks or equivalent CAD experience is required

·        Experience in a manufacturing environment

  • CNC Machining knowledge is preferred
  • Knowledge of GD&T is required
  • Knowledge of different types of metals is preferred
  • Basic understanding of metallurgy, metal forming and thermal processing of materials
  • Familiarity with various types of material testing is a plus
  • Proficient in basic engineering fundamentals
  • Must be detail oriented and have the ability to solve challenging problems with creative solutions
  • Need to be able to perform with minimal supervision, on your own or as a team player, in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills are required
