The primary function of this position is responsible and accountable for managing all operations at the plant location including, leading the plant strategy and execution related to customer fulfillment, budget, resource utilization, quality, delivery and talent management, as well as fostering a strong safety culture.  This position requires an individual to drive continuous improvements in cost containment, standardized processes, performance metrics and safety.  As the senior management representative at the location, the Plant manager is expected to be the voice of the company and effectively communicate the company's positions and decisions on a timely basis.  In this position, you will report to the Unit General Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 
  • Leadership:  
    • Oversees all plant operations, inter-plant communication and coordination, maintenance, tool & die, policies, procedures and production goals.
    • Identify, implement, and share manufacturing "best practices".
    • Function as an in-plant expert concerning the production of the plant's product line.
    • Provide innovative solutions to customer issues by leading collaborative efforts to address all issues.  Leverage the ideas of others to prioritize, create, and deliver innovative solutions.
    • Solicits feedback from key stakeholders at regular intervals to ensure quality, cost and response time continue to meet with customer expectations. 
    • Communicates broader plans and objectives while cascading work assignments.
  • Operational Efficiency:  
    • Set and maintain standards that ensure on-time delivery of quality products.
    • Optimize plant performance through utilization of manpower, equipment and resources. 
    • Plan daily production activities to meet distribution requirements.
    • Conduct daily production meetings to ensure on-time deliveries of customer product.
    • Responsible for maintaining adequate inventory of production supplies.
    • Oversee and manage inventory levels
    • Anticipate problems and assist with developing contingencies to resolve.
    • Identify and resolve inner department issues and interruptions
    • Ensure the Standard Operating Procedures and Processes are being utilized.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Define, measure, analyze, improve and control all operational aspects and deliver results to plan.
    • Report, monitor and implement key performance metrics and take appropriate fact-based actions to correct performance gaps.
    • Support 5S and Lean Projects and continuously identify ways to reduce plant operating costs through the incorporation of Operational Excellence strategies.
  • Capital Effectiveness:  
    • Manage the plant P&L statement and lead the facility to deliver business plan objectives for shipments, gross operating margin, on-time deliveries, cost control, efficiencies and inventory accuracy.
    • Develop and maintain operational budget and production goals.
    • Control costs through close management of the operational and capital budgets and by identifying, prioritizing, and pursuing continuous improvement projects.
    • Ensure the existence of Preventive Maintenance (PM) system to maintain, repair and improve plant machinery, equipment and facilities.
    • Provide technical support, troubleshoot and resolve equipment and process issues.
  • Environmental & Safety:
    • Vigorously enforce safe manufacturing practices and ensure compliance with all-application safety and environmental rules, regulations and procedures.
    • Lead workplace safety committee meetings.
    • Ensure team is fully trained in, committed to, and conduct their activities in accordance with all aspects of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) requirements.
  • Managing People:
    • Determine facility headcount required and manage planning and approvals.  Guide management team in recruiting, hiring, development and termination activities to meet business needs.
    • Manage the workforce to ensure compliance with Company policies and procedures.  
    • Maintain performance excellence by holding the team accountable for results.
    • Administer merit pay programs within the provided guidelines.
    • Provide timely guidance, performance feedback, and clarification of expectations.
    • Handles routine personnel issues including coaching and counseling subordinates.
 
JOB REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering or technical field is required
  • Master’s degree in Business or Industrial Management preferred
  • Experience with Proven Results:
    • 7+ years of progressive supervisory experience in manufacturing environment.
    • 3+ years of experience in a Plant/General Manager role, leading a manufacturing facility.
    • Must be a hands-on Plant Manager and have demonstrated expertise in managing significant change within a manufacturing operating environment. 
  • In depth knowledge, experience and understanding of manufacturing processes, production flow and principles of Lean Mfg. Knowledge and over sight of the following:    
    • JD Edwards AS400  
    • New Equipment Installation
    • Troubleshoot MFG Problems / Shortages
    • Technical Support for MFG Machinery Operation
    • Develop Quality Checks and Procedures   
  • Capable to travel 15% of the work days 
  • Must possess and maintain valid non-commercial license.
  • Bi-lingual in English/Spanish is a plus. Other language capability beneficial
