Product Engineer 

We have partnered with a Global Automotive Manufacturer to lead a search for their Product Engineer role at their NW Ohio Headquarters. Our client is the world leading manufacturer of their product and this high profile Product Engineer role will contribute to current product design and development and new product design development. 

Product Engineer (job description)
Reports to:   Engineering Manager
Summary of Position: 
  • The Product Engineer position includes drawing/designing/reverse engineering of auto parts using AutoCAD
  • Maintaining quality systems that uphold industry standards.
  • Outline process specifications and developed functional and test requirements.
  • Inspect new samples as well as rubber materials.
  • Support contract manufacturing and approve vendors to facilitate product quality improvement.
  • Build bills of material formats for product lines.
  • Interface with product management, packaging, procurement and tech services.
  • Conduct warranty analysis.
  • Engage in customer relationship management.
  • Responsible for all market and product research for current and developing Product Lines.
  • Maintain all catalogs for all presentations meeting industry standards (ACES & PIES)
Duties & Responsibilities:
New Product Development:
  • Gain a deep understanding of customer experience,
  • identify and fill product gaps and generate new ideas that grow market share,
  • improve customer experience and drive growth  
  • Acquire any data required to implement new product lines
  • Preform the required documentation and entry into the relative cataloging data base and maintain.
  • Monitor all industry news/tends as it relates to the business and distribute internally as necessary.  
  • Customer inquiries- handle any issues from the field related to any segment of business related to job function.  
  • Attend any necessary industry events and be active in any association membership.
  • Keep up with industry standards/developments through continuing educational seminars/conferences.
  • FMSI – keep up with new identities.
New Part Creation:
  • OE parts research for all existing products-acquire/interpret/implement/maintain data for light and medium duty vehicles and evaluate and recommend additional coverage.
  • Create buy-in for the product vision both internally and with key external partners   
  • Product development-manage NPF process/form from start to finish. Maintain history.  
  • Daily use of AutoCAD – Create, Revise & Maintain drawings/part prints  
  • Part consolidation-identify, qualify and update all catalogs and cross-references  
  • Ensure each part meet or exceed OE specifications in fit and function
  •  Quality – Qualify parts via PPAP process – Dimensional & Fitment
Cataloging & Marketing Support:
  • Update and maintain proprietary catalog databases and back-up data.
  • Create ACES Standard catalog files for any customer/receiver and follow through on correcting corresponding assessments.
  •  Maintain history of files  
  • Produce from start to finish any required catalog printing/publishing.  
  • Support product launches providing marketing/sales team with differentiating strategies and facts for marketplace messages
Quality Assurance:
  • Support the quality assurance teams (at the manufacturing and receiving facilities) with the required data and practices to ensure parts meet IBI specification
Customer Service:
  • Resolve quality concerns/catalog questions 
  • Problem solve part fit and fiction issues
Light travel (Domestic and International):
  • Travel to manufacturing plants, industry events and customer locations
Skills Required:
  • Computer Skills: Proficient with (AutoCAD, JD Edwards World, AS400, Database applications, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point.) Also proficient with JNPSoft software and ACES/PIES standards.  
  • Mechanical Amplitude: ability to understand and apply mechanical concepts and principles to solve problems.  
  • Technical Amplitude and background: with understanding and/or hands-on experience in software development and web technologies
  • Communications Skills: Able to present information, directly with customers and vendors.  Must be able to work on projects with other engineers/departments and listen to and analyze different approaches to the task at hand.  
  • Critical Thinking Skills:  Must be able to solve problems and make conclusions individually, but also work as a team.  
  • Attention to Detail:  Must have excellent visual design sense regarding clear and accurate presentation of prints/material and information. Aptitude for drawing and detail/tolerance.  
  • Math Skills: Must have excellent math skills and ability to measure parts precisely.    
  • Typing Skills: Proficient typing skills with at least 40 WPM  
  • Tool and Measuring device use: understanding and ability to perform tasks with Caliper, height gage, computers, etc.  
  • Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of Automotive Aftermarket with brake systems a plus.
Education/Experience Requirements: 
  • BS in Engineering preferred
  • 3-5 years’ experience, preferably with in the Automotive Aftermarket
