We have a high-profile Product Safety and Compliance Engineer opening with a large and successful division of a global manufacturing company that sells its products in more than 100 countries. This position reports to a corporate director and has significant autonomy in supporting all areas of product safety and regulatory compliance for the division.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Product Safety & Design:
  • Ensure safety compliance of new and modified product designs and instructions, help make design and/or test recommendations for products.
  • Research and identify relevant standards, regulations and requirements for new products (domestic and international markets).
  • Serve as primary liaison between project team, certification organizations, and testing agencies for regulatory certification compliance (including UL, CSA, TUV, Intertek, IEC, ANSI, ASABE, SAE, AEM and US DOT).
  • Introduce and implement new and updated requirements to division per corporate; communicate division product safety concerns to Corporate Product Safety Team for resolution.
  • Develop compliance methodology for products planned for international and new markets, and ensure certification and safety review milestones are complete on time and budget. Drive product safety considerations above and beyond regulatory standards or in areas where there are no clear standards.
  • Ensure material composition transparency including material certifications and/or approvals are obtained for both NPD and legacy products.
  • Investigate accident sites and support legal department, in litigation cases, as needed.

Product Safety & Instruction:
  • Support continuous improvement of division and department projects.
  • Represent company, industry and public interest as company liaison on various industry, regulatory, and standards development boards.
  • Monitor standards making bodies and advise corporate and division of existing, new, and upcoming standards as applicable; provide reports and recommendations regarding standards implementation and product safety to management.
Project management and business methods:
  • Investigate, develop, report and manage allocated project budget for certification, safety testing and cost effective analysis.
  • Ensure timely payment of invoices and record keeping and procure necessary resources if required.
  • Investigate accidents related to product and support recalls when necessary.
  • Develop, track and communicate monthly performance indicators.
  • 4-year degree in related field required; Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred
  • Certification or training in Product Safety programs such as CPSM
  • 5+ years of combined experience in product safety, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance is required
  • Experience working with international product regulatory organizations such as: UL, CSA, TUV, KEMA, IEC, VDE, ANSI, US DOT is required
  • Product development experience preferred
  • Experience with agricultural and/or construction equipment is preferred
  • Experience managing project budgets and scheduled highly preferred
  • Proficient in MS Office applications and understanding of business operating systems (SAP)
  • Creative, big picture thinker. Success in role requires strategic thinking 2-3 steps in future
  • Proven history of managing process improvements in a metric driven culture and consistently meeting cost reduction targets
  • Collaborative and effective team player and able to work with teams who are globally dispersed
