RM Schulte and Associates, one of the industries’ leading search firms has been selected to lead a search in the Lima, OH area for a Design Engineer.

Position Summary:
Performs activities to manage Customer’s Product Launches to assist with quoting process, coordinate design activates between Design and Customer, Lead programs from Platform Award Letter through mass production.  PPAP follow ups and manage timelines for all Launch activities.
  1. As Customer contact, prepares various reports for customer representatives and Company management.
  2. Performs computer-aided design and 3-D solid modeling and surfacing in the design and development of tools and new products.
  3. Coordinateswith customer representatives relative to bids, proposals, Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) submissions, and detailed timetables forthe launch of new programs.
  4. Collaborates Communication with management, production, quality, and engineering personnel to assess opportunities for new programs, ensure feasibility of new designs, and to lead the planning and execution of new product launches and ongoing customer support.  
  5. Coordinates the production of sample products and completion of production trials.  Monitors production results to ensure that customer specifications and timetables are maintained.  
  6. Plans and conducts analyses, inspection, design, and testing functions in order to ensure quality of raw materials and finished products.  Utilizes SPC and structured problem-solving tools.
  7. Communicates significant quality issues and develops recommendations for process improvements, corrective and preventive actions, etc.
  8. Performs quality engineering reviews of design documentation for compliance with customer requirements, TS 16949 standards, etc.
  9. Schedules and conducts periodic supplier quality audits and develops recommendations for continuous quality improvement of purchased material.
  10. Compiles operating procedures, process control procedures, work instructions, etc. as needed to help ensure consistent product quality.
  1. At least three (3) years of progressive and related product design and program management experience is required.  Five (5) or more years of related experience is strongly preferred.
  2. Related experience with a Tier I automotive supplier is required.  Experience that includes metallurgy/metal forming and painting processes as well as ‘cosmetic’ quality standards is preferred.
  3. Experience must include:
  • C3P, PPAP/APQP, DVP&R, WERS, DFMEA/PFMEAISO/TS 16949 standards for quality management systems
  • Statistical Process Control (SPC), Root Cause Analysis, 5 Why, Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA)
  • Failure Mode &Effects Analysis (FMEA), Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP)
  • Gauging, inspection processes, blueprint reading, geometric dimensioning/tolerancing
  1. Additional experience that is strongly preferred includes:
  • ASQ certification
  • Coordinate measuring machine operation/programming
  • Design of Experiments (DOE), Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Project management tools/software
  • Well-developed computer knowledge/skills (e.g., MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, etc.)
  1. Related Associate degree, or equivalent, is required.  Related Bachelor degree, or equivalent, is strongly preferred.
