Job Description:  Staff Engineer

The Staff Engineer will be responsible for the ongoing development, improvement and life-cycle management of Automatic Fire Suppression Systems.  The candidate must be a good communicator, mechanically inclined and be prepared to spend up to 50% of their time away from their desk in a ‘hands-on’ environment.

General duties will include, but not be limited to:

·        Evaluation and selection of suppliers/vendors
·        Design, develop and test new component hardware
·        Understand, and can work with 3D modelling software to design components and create manufacturing drawings
·        Operate flow calculation software to verify system design
·        Liaise with customers and approval bodies to provide and/or create all necessary drawings, documentation, and associated design information
·        Manage component and system approval projects

Candidates will be able to exhibit a knowledge and understanding of:

·        Fire protection engineering methods and practices
·        Engineered and pre-engineered fire suppression systems
·        Firefighting equipment, its uses, capabilities, and limitations
·        Willingness to learn: National and International fire extinguishing approval standards (NFPA, UL, FM, DOT, EN, etc.)
·        The principles of hydraulics related to fire extinguishing agent delivery 
·        The nature and characteristics of fire
·        How fires originate, develop, and spread
·        The hazards and risks associated with fire 
General Qualifications:

The candidate will need the following:
·        Proficient with either SolidWorks or Solid Edge
·        Experience testing, developing test plans and specifications
·        Proficient with MS Office and MS Project
·        Strong technical documentation writing skills
·        Strong communication skills
·        Ability to organize project tasks, goals, timelines, etc. and manage multiple projects simultaneously
·        Proven problem-solving experience
·        Ability to analyze and conduct tests on new products
·        Strong drafting experience using 3D modelling software
·        Ability to be part of a team as well as work independently
BS (ME preferred) with >2 years of fire industry experience required. The candidate will need the following:

Desired Major(s): All Schools of Engineering Majors/Mechanical Engineering
Degree Level: Bachelor
Travel Percentage: 30% Travel (international travel can often be required to be undertaken at short notice)
