Job Title: Sr. Packaging Engineer-Design (Medical Device)
The Senior Packaging Engineer will work closely with company cross-functional teams to develop packaging designs in support of R&D, Marketing, Quality, Regulatory, and Operations, per the guidelines of ISO 11607-1 and company design control procedures.
Responsible for ensuring packaging designs are functional, cost effective, and meets the needs of the customer. This position will report to the Packaging Design Engineering Manager.
New Product Development
Designs and develops sterile packaging systems for new product development and existing product lines under limited supervision. Coordinates and monitors packaging projects and programs from inception through implementation. Establishes appropriate project schedules and prepares project reports periodically to outline progress
Provides technical packaging support and leadership to cross-functional teams, and lower level packaging engineers
Communicates effectively with cross functional teams, such as R&D, Marketing, Clinical, Regulatory Affairs, Quality Assurance, Purchasing, and Operations
Develops protocols and reports for packaging feasibility studies and Design Verification for new products
Works effectively with company's packaging suppliers
Prepares reports/documentation using good documentation practices and effectively communicates results cross-functionally and vertically within the organization
Creates, reviews, and approves Engineering Change Requests for packaging for design changes as necessary
Effectively works with manufacturing process teams to implement new design changes quickly and effectively to minimize downtime in production.
Assists in the development of standardized test procedures, polices, and standards
Leads or assists with Corrective and Preventative Actions (CAPA) projects as necessary
Leads or assists with business initiative packaging projects as required
Travel Approximately 10% Education
Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering/Science or related technical area; Master’s degree preferred.
Licenses/Certifications None Experience
3-5 years’ experience in Packaging Engineering related to the design and development of medical device or health care product packaging; 1-2 years’ experience with a Master’s degree.
Strong understanding of ISO 11607-1 and ISO 11607-2 and design controls required Competencies
Strong communication skills required
Basic Solid works/AutoCAD skills preferred
