Supplier Quality Engineer

Job Description

Purpose of the Position: This position is responsible for investigating, analyzing and correcting problems of supplier parts to ensure the quality of these parts from the development phase through the end of the life cycle by collaborating cross-functional partnerships within the company (worldwide) and with suppliers within the NAFTA region.


Essential Functions:  
For New Product and Current Series activities:
Lead the Advanced Product Quality Planning activities with the NAFTA supply base. Work with other company plants and departments to assure SOP.  Tasks include:
- Creation and alignment of the production part approval process per  guidelines.    
- Run at Rate
- Appearance approval
- Setting boundary samples
- Review trial parts
- Report part readiness for launch to management team
- Fixture & gauge concept and capability validation
- Supplier validation and development process
- Specialist for production issues
Provide lessons learned from current running series to improve future projects.
Perform company Process Audits at suppliers and monitor supplier performance to company’s targets and standards. When needed facilitate improvement plans using problem solving and continuous improvement techniques.
Manage international production part suppliers (in NAFTA region) in regards to quality concerns and change implementation. This includes communicating all part issues and coordinating countermeasure activities.
Ensure process planning and cross-functional activities to achieve the quality, safety and production goals of the company.
Open to travel within NAFTA region frequently.

Job Requirements

Education:  Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related area or the equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience: Three (3) to ten (10) years of experience in Engineering within Original Equipment Manufacturing or a Tier 1 Supplier.  
Necessary Skills, Certifications, etc.:  
Strong planning and problem skills required using established methodologies including 8-D, 5-Why, etc.
Strong communication skills are required, as well the ability to communicate complex topics into a cross-functional and cross-cultural environment.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project, Access)
Capable of using hand measurement tools (i.e., calipers, micro-meters) 
PC skills along with strong analytical and problem solving skills
PPAP and audit experience
Working knowledge in Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA)
Expertise in requested commodity
Experience in leading task forces
Preferred Skills:
Working knowledge with AutoCAD, Catia, Coordinate measurement machine, CAD, Six-Sigma as well as tooling knowledge
