The successful candidate will design manufacturing tools and fixtures as required to ensure product designs that can be repeatedly manufactured to specified tolerances. Works with manufacturing engineering and design engineering to create tool designs that incorporate mistake proofing, ergonomic improvements, and productivity enhancements.  Studies parts and/or assembly specifications, engineering designs and blueprints, tool orders requests and manufacturing data to ensure tool design provides the desired results. Selects tool, fixture and jig materials with respect to material characteristics, dimensional tolerances, service requirements and manufacturability. Reviews new & current products from a Design for Manufacturability viewpoint to further enhance our methods of manufacture.


·      Designs process tools and fixtures, including creating preliminary design concepts, layouts and detailed drawings for all processes including plant, building and lot layouts

·      Experience required in the design and building of hand and automated tools

·      Experience required in the design and building of assembly fixtures

·      Designs inspection gages, prototype fixtures and other tooling and fixtures as needed

·      Creates complete tooling drawings for the tooling that will be made in-house and at outside sources

·      Troubleshoots problems related to tooling and fixtures

·      Evaluates and implements suggestions from manufacturing engineering, design engineering, and production personnel in an effort to improve tooling, part handling, process controls and assembled part performance and tool life

·      Interfaces with purchasing and manages outside suppliers on tooling as needed

·      Maintains schedule to ensure tooling will be available when needed

·      Provides suggestions to manufacturing engineering and design engineering for product and process improvements

·      Maintains all tooling documentation

·      Ensures proper tooling cost control


·      Bachelor’s degree in a related specialized area or the equivalent, with a minimum of two to five years of related experience.

·      Must have experience using computer-aided design software; Solid Works.  SolidWorks certifications and experience working with Sheet Metal applications within SolidWorks a plus

·      Experience designing stamping and forming die sets a plus

·      Must be able to work as a part of a team to achieve the company’s overall goals;

·      Fluent in SolidWorks 3D modeling.  Exposure to AutoCAD a plus

·      Experience with design of hydraulic and pneumatic systems

·      Sound judgment in determining degree of automation to incorporate in a design to achieve optimal Return on Investment in a low volume high mix manufacturing environment

·      Must demonstrate clear verbal and written communication skills (English);

·      Must be able to read and process written communication including, but not limited to measurements, directions, instructions, etc.;

·      Must possess successful problem-solving skills

·      Must be able to exhibit tact and diplomacy and maintain professional relationships with supervisors, fellow employees, customers, etc.;

·      Must be able to work under physically and mentally stressful situations;

·      Must be able to prioritize and easily adapt to changes through the day.

·      Practices creative thinking and idea generation to advance our business performance

·      Must be able to delivers innovative, flexible, integrated solutions to meet customers changing business needs
