DescriptionCOMPANY: This is a well funded domestic start-up developing innovative scalable greentech energy storage systems. This is a ground floor opportunity to contribute your theoretical mechanical engineering design skills including engine design, DFM and mathematical modeling in challenging technical projects that will have a significant positive impact on global warming in what is projected to be a $100 Billion market. You will be working with a small group of highly intelligent physicists and engineers working on practical problems for commercial products. They not only offer an excellent benefits package including medical, dental and vision along with relocation assistance, but for this position they are also offering equity ownership in the company. They are currently located in Oakland, CA in the beautiful San Francisco Bay area.
DUTIES: This person will report to the V.P. Engineering and will be responsible for contributing to the group their skills and abilities in the areas of theoretical and conceptual design of piston driven compressors and/or reciprocating engines. This person will be responsible for the system design that will be conceptual in nature and based on engineering principles, not just working with vendors to specify components. Design for manufacturability in the design of these products is required. This person will be working with a team of highly intelligent physicists, electrical and mechanical engineers through their design development, prototyping and subsequent manufacturing processes.
REQUIREMENTS: This person will have a minimum of a Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a PhD preferred and a minimum of 5 years of hands-on design experience with pumps, reciprocating engines or piston driven compressors. This person should have conceptual design experience that covers the entire engine including pistons, seals, valves, nozzles and sprays and lubricants (not just specialized in one aspect of the engine). Experience should also include knowledge hydraulics, pneumatics, and experience with multiphase (gas/fluid) flows. Skills will also include numerical methods associated with modeling and simulation of mechnical and thermodynamical systems as well as design for manufacturability. This individual will be highly creative and innovative they will be self-motivated and able to work effectively with a highly skilled team. They will possess good communication and presentation skills as well as being very computer literate. The ideal candidate will also have pubilshed technical papers illustrating their knowledge of engine or compressor design, development or modeling and simulation. This person can come out of any piston driven engine, pump or piston driven compressor company larger or small (e.g. Caterpillar, John Deere, Cummins or Kohler, Briggs Stratton, or Marine or RV engine companies e.g. Mercury Marine, Bombardier etc.) however, they will need to have experience dealing with the design of the entire product. Any experience with or knowledge of power systems ranging from 100KW to 2 MW would be highly desired.
