Description Qualifications

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor degree in Engineering with courses in optics, mechanics, and physics plus 4 years optical design experience for automotive lighting including feasibility studies, optical designs, hardware evaluations, problem-solving, and launch support. Experience in PC operation and Unix.

Preferred Requirements: Minimum requirements plus Bachelor Degree in engineering plus 8 years experience in Optical Engineering within automotive supplier manufactuiring. Experience in a JIT manufacturing environment.


Duties & Responsibilities:

Operate optical design and analysis software transferred from companys overseas shareholders for product development.
Operate commercially licensed optical design and analysis software for product development.
Improve available optical design software as necessary to extend capability and meet new requirements.
Operate and program PC and Unix systems.
Provide optical design related guidance and technical advice to project engineers and designers for production projects.
Design tests in a methodical and systematic manner. Conduct tests, lab set up, data acquisition, data analysis, and other evaluations for prototype and pre-production hardware.
Recommend design changes based on results of prototype and production hardware tests.
Assist development engineers for the optical design and analysis needs for new product development.
Apply knowledge of physics, optics, and mathematics to create design solutions to automotive lighting engineering issues.
Generage new concepts of improving optical design capabilities.
Document projects per optical design standards. Document non-project work per R&D department standards. Document lessons learned from previous projects to promote skill level of optical design team.
Create new techniques and methodologies for optical design with new light sources, new manufacturing techniques, and other new technologies.
Perform feasibility studies for complex automotive lighting systems for a variety of automotive lighting components and markets.
Mentor junior level optical engineers to raise skill level of optical design team.
Inititate and lead large-scale projects to improve the design capability of the optical design team or to develop new optical design technolgies.
Initiate and lead the development of new techniques or methodologies for optical design with new light sources, new manufacturing techniques, or other new technologies.
Act as team leader for optical design activities assigned by management; perform project planning, resource planning, and resource allocation.
